Rep. Anna Paulina Luna publicly praised President Donald Trump on May 8 following the administration’s release of previously classified unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAP, records, adding to growing political and public discussion surrounding government transparency and decades of UFO-related investigations.
In a post published on X, Luna thanked Trump directly for advancing the declassification effort. “Thank you @POTUS for pushing forth UAP declassification for the first time in American history,” Luna wrote in response to an announcement from the White House regarding the newly released files.
The White House post described the disclosures as part of a “Presidential Unsealing for UAP Encounters,” stating that the Department of War had “declassified & released unresolved UAP records.” The administration also described the move as “an unprecedented level of transparency,” adding that no previous administration had “gone this far” in publicly releasing government-held UAP materials.
According to the White House statement, the files were published through the government portal WAR.GOV/UFO, with officials saying additional records are expected to be released on a rolling basis as more materials complete the declassification process. The release included documents, historical reports, photographs, videos, and mission transcripts tied to longstanding UFO and UAP investigations.

President Trump separately addressed the disclosures in a Truth Social post, calling the release “the first tranche of the UFO/UAP files to the Public for their review and study.” He said the administration directed agencies to identify and provide records connected to “Alien and Extraterrestrial Life, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, and Unidentified Flying Objects” as part of what he described as an effort toward “Complete and Maximum Transparency.”
Reuters reported that the batch released Friday included roughly 160 files, many tied to reports and investigations dating back to the 1940s. Among the records was a 1947 report discussing “flying discs,” as well as Apollo-era materials linked to NASA lunar missions. One of the more widely discussed items included a photograph described in the archive as showing “unidentified phenomena” captured from the moon’s surface during the Apollo 12 mission in 1969.
The disclosures also included a transcript from the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. According to the transcript, Apollo 17 command module pilot Ronald Evans reported observing “a few very bright particles or fragments or something that go drifting by as we maneuver.” Mission control replied, “Roger. Understand,” according to the released files.
Luna has been one of the most vocal lawmakers in Congress pushing for additional disclosure surrounding UAP investigations and classified federal records. Alongside Representative Tim Burchett, she has repeatedly advocated for the public release of government materials connected to unexplained aerial sightings, military encounters, and historical aerospace investigations.
The Florida Republican is also considered one of Trump’s closest congressional allies and has consistently supported his policy agenda and public initiatives. Trump has previously backed Luna for leadership positions connected to government transparency efforts, including reported support for her involvement in task forces tied to declassification initiatives and federal records oversight.
The latest release nevertheless renewed public attention surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena and the broader debate over classified aerospace programs, government transparency, and the possibility of unexplained activity beyond known aviation systems. Interest in UAP investigations has expanded significantly in recent years following congressional hearings, military pilot testimony, and Pentagon reviews that brought the topic further into mainstream political and scientific discussion.
Luna indicated in public comments that another tranche of declassified materials could arrive within approximately 30 days, suggesting the May 8 disclosures may represent only the beginning of a broader government release effort tied to historical UFO and UAP records.
