Gaming Becomes the New Sport in Nike and Martine Rose’s Latest Collaboration

Nike and Martine Rose have unveiled the newest chapter in their eight-year partnership: a bold Nike x Martine Rose Sport collection that reimagines gaming culture as a modern athletic arena. Announced through Nike’s official newsroom, the release champions skill over status, individuality over conformity and expression over everything — values deeply rooted in gaming communities worldwide.

Gamers as Modern Athletes

Rather than treating gaming as a niche subculture, the collection positions gamers as athletes of a contemporary digital field — competitors defined by precision, focus, endurance and intense strategic play. Nike and Rose frame gaming as a legitimate extension of sport, a space where millions train, compete and connect.

Crucially, the designs do not mimic gaming graphics, neon aesthetics or sci-fi visuals. Instead, gaming serves as the creative lens for the collection. Rose translates what matters to competitive gamers into fashion:

  • comfort and ease of movement for long sessions of focus
  • individuality and self-expression as core identity markers
  • the nostalgic vibe of 1990s LAN parties, where community and DIY culture shaped early competitive gaming

The result is a visual language that merges sportwear, streetwear and digital-era culture into a cohesive, athlete-inspired wardrobe.

Gaming is a new lens into how we view sport, and I want to help expand that lens,” says Martine Rose. She describes the collaboration as an opportunity to spotlight the corners of contemporary culture — in this case, the global community built around digital competition — through the medium of fashion.

Designs Inspired by LAN Culture and Sport Heritage

The collection pulls aesthetic cues from 1990s LAN gatherings, moments when gamers physically converged with their PCs to compete, collaborate and create community. This influence informs pieces that feel relaxed, functional and expressive — silhouettes designed for a world where athletes exist both online and offline.

The lineup includes:

  • football kits
  • hoodies
  • shorts
  • fleece pants
  • a water-repellent, sweat-wicking ski parka reimagined from a vintage Nike ACG jacket
  • a cross-body bag built for daily essentials

Each item is crafted with the comfort, mobility and flexibility demanded by today’s “connected athlete,” reflecting Rose’s conviction that gaming is a serious performance environment with its own aesthetic and functional needs.

The Shox MR4 Returns With a New Perspective

Anchoring the footwear offering is the latest evolution of Rose’s Shox MR4, which stretches the proportions of the classic Shox R4 into a mule shape with an elevated heel and squared-off toe — a hybrid that mirrors the collection’s sport-meets-streetwear-meets-digital-culture identity.

A Campaign That Elevates Digital Athletes

To further reinforce the idea of gamers as athletes, the campaign spotlights elite players Ana, Billy Mitchell, Scarlett, SonicFox and TenZ. They are presented through a nostalgic visual lens reminiscent of Nike’s iconic athlete ads from previous eras, reframing these gamers as competitors worthy of the same cultural spotlight.

Global Release Date

The 2025 Nike x Martine Rose Sport collection will be released globally on October 30 on nike.com and through select retailers.
