Trump Announces “Greatest and Most Beautiful Triumphal Arch in the World” as Administration Files Plans for 250-Foot Monument

President Donald Trump announced that his administration has formally submitted plans to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts for a 250-foot triumphal arch in Washington, D.C., describing it as the “greatest and most beautiful” triumphal arch in the world.

In a post on Truth Social on April 10, 2026, Trump stated: “I am pleased to announce that TODAY my Administration officially filed the presentation and plans to the highly respected Commission of Fine Arts for what will be the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World. This will be a wonderful addition to the Washington D.C. area for all Americans to enjoy for many decades to come!”

The 12-page submission, prepared by architecture firm Harrison Design on behalf of the Executive Office of the President and the Department of the Interior, was filed ahead of the Commission of Fine Arts meeting scheduled for April 16, 2026. The documents are available on the CFA website.

The proposed arch would stand approximately 250 feet tall — more than twice the height of the Lincoln Memorial — at Memorial Circle near the western end of Arlington Memorial Bridge, between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

Design renderings show a large central arch topped with a gilded winged figure resembling Lady Liberty holding a torch. The structure is flanked by two 24-foot-tall golden eagles and guarded by four gilded lions at the base. Inscriptions in gold read “One Nation Under God” on one side and “Liberty and Justice for All” on the other.

The project is intended as a major addition to Washington, D.C., tied to celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary. The Commission of Fine Arts will review the concept submission at its upcoming meeting.

The White House reposted Trump’s announcement on X, highlighting the filing of the plans.

No construction timeline has been announced. The proposal is the latest in a series of initiatives by the Trump administration to reshape monumental elements of the nation’s capital.
