United States Secretary of Energy Chris Wright emphasized the need for American leadership in artificial intelligence while addressing energy security and economic concerns during an appearance on Fox News with Laura Ingraham. Wright highlighted both the importance of maintaining domestic AI development and preventing energy price increases that he attributes to previous administration policies.

Wright framed the United States’ position in AI as a strategic imperative. “The United States must lead in AI. We can’t have the energy subtraction policies of the Biden administration and send AI overseas. We have to lead here in the United States and we have to stop the ruinous price rises the Biden administration did,” he said. He described ongoing initiatives in partnership with tech companies to expand AI infrastructure while managing energy costs, noting that agreements with data center developers would prevent additional financial burden on Americans and could even lower rates over time.
Wright stressed the administration’s efforts to integrate AI with energy infrastructure. He described the recent Ratepayer Protection Pledge White House gathering of top tech CEOs where the administration outlined expectations for companies to produce their own energy for AI operations, ensuring that the rapid expansion of AI data centers does not strain the grid or increase costs for consumers. Wright expressed confidence in the agreements, highlighting that collaboration between the federal government and private sector developers would allow AI growth to occur alongside controlled, and potentially reduced, energy prices for Americans.

By connecting U.S. energy policy with leadership in AI, Wright positioned the administration’s approach as a dual strategy to strengthen both national security and technological competitiveness. He framed the initiatives as a response to previous policies that he said undermined energy stability and global AI leadership, asserting that these efforts are key to maintaining America’s edge in emerging technologies.
Overall, Wright presented a vision in which the United States can expand AI capabilities, secure domestic energy supply, and stabilize costs for consumers, linking technological innovation directly with strategic and economic priorities.
