During his remarks, Trump described the pledge as a major step in addressing concerns that large-scale data center development could strain local power grids and drive up energy prices. “Under this new agreement Big Tech companies are committing to fully cover the cost of increased electricity required for AI data centers and that would be prices for American communities will not go up but in many cases will actually come down and very substantially,” Trump said.
The president noted that data center projects have sometimes faced opposition from communities worried about their impact on local energy costs. The new framework addresses those concerns directly by requiring companies to fund their own power infrastructure and associated grid upgrades. “The data centers and you people are so big, you’re the biggest in the world but they’ve developed a little bit of a bad public… because people think that if a data center goes in, their electricity prices are going to go up and that’s not happening,” Trump said. “For the areas where it did happen, it won’t happen anymore because they never had this alternative.”
Trump emphasized that the agreement ensures the continued expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure while shielding consumers from financial impact. “This means that the tech companies and the data centers will be able to get the electricity they need all without driving up electricity costs to consumers,” he said.

The Ratepayer Protection Pledge brings together several leading technology companies, including Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and xAI. Under the agreement, participating companies commit to financing new power generation resources and covering the costs of transmission and infrastructure upgrades required to support their data centers.
The framework is intended to prevent the rising energy demands of artificial intelligence infrastructure from being passed on to consumers. By requiring companies to invest directly in energy generation and grid upgrades, the initiative aims to expand electricity supply while maintaining affordability for households.
