Texas Military Department Continues Operation Fury Shield to Safeguard Critical Infrastructure One Month After Activation

The Texas Military Department is conducting Operation Fury Shield under the direction of Governor Greg Abbott in coordination with partner agencies to safeguard Texas critical infrastructure.

“Under the direction of Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Military Department is conducting Operation Fury Shield in coordination with partner agencies to safeguard Texas critical infrastructure,” the agency stated in a post shared on X on March 27, 2026.

The post includes a photo of Texas National Guard soldiers in full gear standing beside a Humvee under a brightly illuminated green bridge at dusk, visually confirming that the mission remains active nearly one month after it began.

Operation Fury Shield was officially activated on February 28, 2026, when Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Military Department to deploy service members. According to the department’s press release, the operation focuses on protecting citizens and critical infrastructure from any potential threat of retaliation.

“At the direction of Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Military Department (TMD) is activating Service Members for Operation Fury Shield — working alongside our state partners to protect our citizens and critical infrastructure from any potential threat of retaliation,” the official press release states.

TMD will increase patrols at key locations including energy facilities, ports, and the southern border while also enhancing cybersecurity capabilities. The mission involves the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, and Texas State Guard, all working in coordination with partner agencies such as the Department of Public Safety.

The activation came in direct response to U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Gov. Greg Abbott deployed troops and heightened security measures to guard against possible retaliation, including “lone wolf” or cyber attacks.

“Texas stands with President Trump,” Abbott wrote on social media. “His message to Iran is clear: aggression toward America and our allies will no longer be tolerated.”

Iran has vowed revenge, with parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf stating, “We will deliver such devastating blows that you yourselves will be driven to beg.” President Donald Trump responded on Truth Social, warning that any Iranian retaliation would be met with unprecedented force.

As reported by the Houston Chronicle, the operation involves the Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety guarding the southern border, ports, and energy facilities. No specific public threat against Texas has been reported, but the precautionary measures were put in place amid the global fallout from the strikes.

With the March 27 update using present-tense language (“is conducting”), the operation continues without an announced end date. The Texas Military Department’s steadfast commitment, as stated in the original release, remains “to serve and protect the people of our great state.”

As international tensions persist, Operation Fury Shield underscores Texas’s proactive approach to protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
