The company’s official Robotaxi account announced the expansion on X on April 18, 2026, stating “Robotaxi now rolling out in Dallas & Houston.”
The service operates without a safety driver or human monitor in the front seat. It uses existing Model Y vehicles in limited geofenced areas of each city.
In Dallas, the initial service area covers approximately 30 to 35 square miles, including Highland Park, Uptown and downtown neighborhoods. In Houston, the geofence covers about 25 square miles in the Willowbrook and Jersey Village areas.

The rollout marks the first expansion of Tesla’s Robotaxi service beyond Austin, Texas, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Elon Musk replied to the announcement, encouraging people to “Try Tesla Robotaxi in Dallas & Houston!”
Tesla first launched unsupervised Robotaxi rides in Austin last year. The company had previously indicated plans to expand to additional cities in the first half of 2026.
The service is currently available to users who have requested access through the Tesla app. Rides are offered using the company’s autonomous driving technology.
Tesla’s purpose-built Cybercab vehicle, designed specifically for robotaxi use, is not yet in commercial service. The current rollout relies on converted Model Y vehicles.
No additional details on fleet size, pricing or exact availability hours were provided in the announcement.
Tesla continues to expand its autonomous ride-hailing service as it works toward broader deployment across more cities.
