Tesla Cybercabs Spotted on Public Roads in Multiple U.S. Cities

Tesla Cybercabs, the company’s upcoming robotaxi vehicles, are increasingly being spotted on public roads in multiple U.S. cities as the company ramps up real-world testing ahead of planned production.

Recent sightings include locations far from Tesla’s traditional testing hubs in Austin and California. On April 10, 2026, a Cybercab was photographed in Wichita, Kansas, drawing attention on social media. Another unit was reported in Elgin, Illinois, in recent weeks.

Additional sightings have been reported in San Francisco (including in heavy rain), Chicago, Marina del Rey, California, and Washington, D.C. Many of the prototypes spotted in public still feature steering wheels and other driver controls, consistent with Tesla’s current validation and testing phase.

The Cybercab was first unveiled in October 2024 as a purpose-built, two-seater autonomous robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals in its final production form. Tesla has stated that volume production is scheduled to begin in 2026, with unsupervised robotaxi service planned to follow.

Elon Musk has repeatedly emphasized that real production ramp-up is targeted for April 2026. In recent comments, he noted that the company is “just testing the production system. Real production ramp starts in April.” while expanding the number of Cybercab prototypes for broader real-world data collection.

The increased public sightings come as Tesla continues to refine its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. Prototypes are being tested in diverse conditions, including rain and highway driving, to gather data for the unsupervised autonomy required for the final Cybercab design.

Tesla has not officially commented on the specific sightings in Wichita or Elgin, but the company has acknowledged that Cybercab testing is expanding beyond Texas and California as it prepares for wider deployment.

The Cybercab is a key part of Tesla’s long-term robotaxi ambitions. Musk has described the vehicle as central to the company’s future, with plans to eventually scale production significantly and offer unsupervised ridesharing services across the United States.
