President Donald Trump spoke with NBC News’ Tom Llamas about artificial intelligence, emphasizing the transformative impact he believes the technology will have on the United States and the world. Trump positioned AI as a central focus of his administration, describing it as potentially “the biggest thing, bigger than the internet, bigger than anything else.” He highlighted the United States’ competitive position in the global AI landscape, claiming that the country is “leading China by a lot” and “leading everybody by a lot,” while noting the importance of domestic production to support emerging technologies.
.@POTUS: AI is going to be maybe the biggest thing — bigger than the Internet, bigger than anything else. We are leading China by a lot. We are leading everybody by a lot… I came up with a concept: each data center that is built is going to generate their own electricity. pic.twitter.com/wUxqGf0XoO

Trump connected AI development to broader industrial initiatives, including energy and manufacturing. He described a concept in which each new building would generate its own electricity, linking this to efforts to support AI infrastructure as well as traditional manufacturing.
Addressing concerns about the potential negative effects of AI, Trump acknowledged the responsibility of the presidency in guiding its development. He said, “Everything’s on me as president. Everything’s on me. I can say this. It’ll be the greatest jobs producer. It’ll be the greatest military producer. It’ll be the greatest medical producer. There’ll be tremendous good. And there’ll be probably some bad, too.” When pressed about the technology’s potential to displace workers, he maintained that AI has not yet fully materialized in the workforce, arguing that the United States currently has more employed people than at any point in the nation’s history.
Trump also addressed broader concerns about AI’s economic impact, suggesting that early fears about job losses due to technological advancement are similar to past concerns over the internet and automation. He emphasized that, in his view, careful development and oversight can result in substantial benefits for the economy, military, and medical sectors.
Trump’s remarks come amid heightened attention on AI across both private industry and government policy circles. The interview highlighted his perspective that AI represents not only an economic and technological opportunity but also a strategic national priority. By framing himself as the “president who is ushering in the AI revolution,” Trump emphasized a proactive role for his administration in shaping the development and implementation of artificial intelligence in the United States.
