After Five Artists Drop Out of Trump’s America 250 Concert, Trump Says He May Replace Them With Himself Because He “Gets Much Larger Audiences Than Elvis in His Prime”

WASHINGTON, May 30, 2026 — President Donald Trump floated replacing the majority of artists who have dropped out of the administration’s America 250 concert series with himself on Friday, claiming on Truth Social that he draws bigger crowds than Elvis Presley and calling himself “the Number One Attraction Anywhere in the World” — while ordering his team to explore hosting an “America Is Back” rally on the National Mall in their place.

“I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance on Wednesday, so I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referring to himself in the third person before revealing the subject was Donald J. Trump.

“I don’t want so-called ‘Artists’ that get paid far too much money, who aren’t happy,” Trump continued. “I only want to be surrounded by Happy People, Smart People, Successful People, and People that know how to WIN. So, by copy of this TRUTH, I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location. Only Great Patriots invited — It will be a Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America!”

Who Dropped Out — and Why

The mass artist exodus that prompted Trump’s post was from Freedom 250 — a White House public-private partnership created by executive order to produce Trump-driven entertainment alternatives on the National Mall as part of the America’s semiquincentennial celebrations. The Great American State Fair runs on the National Mall from June 25 through July 10, with the Freedom 250 concert series scheduled for that window.

Artists who publicly distanced themselves from the concerts this week include the Commodores, Martina McBride, Morris Day & the Time, Poison frontman Bret Michaels, and rapper Young MC. Several said they had been misled about the event’s political affiliations when they agreed to perform, according to CNN’s reporting on the withdrawals. Vanilla Ice and a small number of others remain committed to performing.

The Freedom 250 lineup had been heavily weighted toward legacy and nostalgia acts — many sharing the same booking agent, Jeff Epstein of Universal Attractions — and was quickly dubbed “MAGAfest” by critics on social media. The announced concert was separate from the nonpartisan United States Semiquincentennial Commission, known as America250, which is organizing its own parallel celebrations including a Times Square ball drop on July 3, a Spirit of America parade, and expanded fireworks billed as the largest display in world history.

Trump’s Self-Assessment

Trump’s Truth Social post was notable for its extended third-person self-introduction, in which he described himself as the man “who loves our Country more than anyone else, and the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!).” He also contrasted the state of the country under his presidency with what came before: “Two years ago, the United States was DEAD. Now we have the ‘HOTTEST’ Country anywhere in the World.”

He dismissed the departing artists as “highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists'” and said he planned to “give a major speech, rallying the Country forward like I have done ever since being President.”

The Elvis comparison echoes a line Trump has used at campaign rallies for years — telling supporters that his crowds rival or exceed those of the King of Rock and Roll. Elvis Presley, who died in 1977, drew record-breaking live audiences throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s, including his 1973 “Aloha from Hawaii” concert, which was broadcast live via satellite to an estimated global audience of 1.5 billion people — at the time the largest television audience for an entertainment special in history.

America 250 — What’s Still Planned

The broader America 250 celebration remains on track regardless of Freedom 250’s performer troubles. The nonpartisan America250 Commission, chaired by former U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios, has planned a series of events including America’s Block Party in five cities on July 3 and 4, the Times Square ball drop — the first outside New Year’s Eve in 120 years — and expanded fireworks on the National Mall. A UFC cage fight at the White House is also planned for June 14, which is both Flag Day and Trump’s 80th birthday.

Whether Trump’s proposed “America Is Back” rally materializes on the same date and location as the Freedom 250 concerts remains to be seen. His Truth Social post described it as a feasibility study — he ordered his representatives to “look at the feasibility,” not to confirm the event.
